Hosted by International Education College (IEC), the information session for the campus selection of the University Students’ Intercultural Competence Competition took place on September 22, in Building 3. Centered on the vision of “Engage with the world through dialogue across differences, and share diverse perspectives through cross‑cultural exchanges”, the event aimed to boost intercultural communication, teamwork and adaptability among Chinese and international students, while building their global vision and humanistic awareness. Instead of rigid theoretical lectures, the session featured interactive sharing and real‑world cases to bring intercultural learning beyond textbooks.
Elva Wang, faculty advisor for innovation and entrepreneurship at IEC, chaired the session. Drawing on last year’s competition, she walked attendees through the contest’s background, rules, assessment criteria and overall objectives. She laid out key requirements for joint teams formed by Chinese and international students, and encouraged students to gain hands‑on international exchange experience, broaden their global outlook and improve their overall intercultural competence.
A number of international representatives took the floor during the session. They shared insights into their home cultures and personal experiences of studying in China in both Chinese and English. Their engaging stories narrowed cultural gaps and fostered a lively atmosphere, giving the audience first‑hand exposure to the charm of diverse global cultures.
Beyond competition briefings and international‑student sharing, highlights from past winning submissions were shown at the session. These real‑life excerpts demonstrated common challenges in intercultural interactions. They helped students recognize cultural differences, inspired thinking on how to resolve communication barriers, and offered practical advice for competition preparation.
The competition is open to students of all majors, both Chinese and international. Joint entries with mixed‑culture teams are highly encouraged. Registration is now open. All interested students are welcome to sign up. Participants can grow through competition and develop capabilities amid cultural encounters, as young people contribute to cross‑cultural mutual learning.
