Sci-tech Pioneer I: FORGE Team’s Cross-disciplinary Innovation

Sci-tech practice activities at the International Education College (IEC)’s Genxtra Science and Technology Innovation Club have been in full swing since this winter vacation. The FORGE Group, a four-member team within the club, consists of first-year Pakistani international aerospace-engineering students Abdulrahman, Muhammad Azam, Azam Fatimah, and Azam Abdullah. The group actively participates in various club activities. Drawing support from the college’s winter and summer innovation camps, the team carries out research and creates creative designs covering space launch systems, elderly care robots and emergency drones. The students have taken part in many competitions at all levels and achieved encouraging results.



Rather than sticking merely to textbook lessons, these freshmen spend their spare time in the innovation lab, using computers to draw up design plans and run basic digital simulations. From this winter break up to now, the four students have worked together to finish digital simulation work for three main projects: basic orbital analysis and thermal protection design for balloon-launched rocket systems, structural design and safety function planning of an intelligent elderly bathing robot, and outline design and delivery structure adjustment of emergency drones. They have also carried out simple observation tests with a display aircraft model, adjusting their digital drawings by referring to the real model.



The team met many technical problems during their research. To solve these issues, students looked up relevant learning materials, adjusted their design plans over and over, and asked teachers for advice to perfect their ideas little by little.




The IEC’s winter and summer innovation camps arrange professional teachers and plenty of study support for students. Teachers guide them to design practical works based on real life, and think about production and safety in daily use. Regular digital simulation, group design discussions and model observation help these freshmen learn knowledge from different engineering fields and improve their logical thinking and teamwork ability.

                                                                                          


The students noted that new ideas alone are not enough for innovation; steady hard work and careful research are also very important. In the future, they will keep taking part in regular Genxtra activities, keep improving their design plans, gain practical engineering experience in more competitions, and steadily raise their overall technical skills.
