Co-hosted by SAU and Amur State University of Russia, the 6th Transnational Mathematical Olympiad was held online in this Spring Semester. As an officially accredited event of the Mathematics Olympiad for Russian Higher Education, the competition drew young math talents from across the globe. This year’s contest attracted 128 participants from 14 international universities, with contestants hailing from 24 countries including China, Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Pakistan, Uganda, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Kenya. After strict internal selection, SAU assembled a team of 13 Chinese and international students to take part in the event. Notably, IEC student MAHEDI K M OBAID ULLAH from Bangladesh achieved the second prize in this International Intercollegiate Mathematical Olympiad, marking the best historical achievement of IEC in this competition.

The competition’s assessment covers core advanced mathematics modules including mathematical analysis, algebra, geometry, differential equations and probability theory. It requires participants to possess solid theoretical knowledge, rigorous logical analysis ability and flexible problem-solving thinking, which thoroughly examines students’ overall mathematical literacy and academic potential.

To help participants adapt to competition difficulty and achieve optimal performance, IEC arranged a two-week targeted intensive training program. The training was instructed by Prof. Meng Chao from the College of Science. Centering on the competition’s key question types and knowledge priorities, the training focused on sorting out complex knowledge in algebra, number theory and geometry. During the training period, students actively discussed academic problems, shared problem-solving methods and cooperated with each other to make steady progress, laying a solid foundation for the official competition.

This event has offered a valuable international academic practice platform for IEC students. Participants broadened their international horizons and improved their professional mathematical competency. Their excellent performance has reflected the fruitful outcomes of IEC’s high-level mathematical competitive training. Moving forward, IEC will continue to enrich international academic activities and empower students to achieve greater breakthroughs in global competitions.
