To deepen international students’ understanding of traditional Chinese culture and promote cross-cultural communication, a distinctive burned foil painting workshop themed “Golden Foil Glows, Ingenuity Shines” was successfully held in May. International students from different countries experienced this delicate traditional Chinese craft and appreciated the charm of intangible cultural heritage up close.

Burned foil painting is a unique folk art with a long history in China. It integrates gilding and hand-painting techniques, producing shimmering, layered artworks that embody oriental elegance and artistic beauty. Though the fine craftsmanship required patience and precision, the students quickly picked up the skills with instructors’ help. Every brushstroke reflected their creativity and perception of Chinese traditional art. As elegant golden patterns gradually took shape, all participants were amazed by the unique luster and texture of burned foil painting.

“This experience is absolutely amazing. Through this craft, I truly feel the wisdom and dedication of ancient Chinese artisans,” one international student commented. “The golden pieces are breathtaking, and I now have a deeper appreciation for Chinese traditional culture.” Many students shared that the activity not only enriched their campus life but also strengthened their connection with Chinese heritage.

This hands-on cultural event serves as a valuable platform for international exchange. It enables overseas students to engage with intangible cultural heritage firsthand, inherit the spirit of craftsmanship, and facilitate the global spread of outstanding traditional Chinese culture among young people.
