Dormitory fire safety hazards and effective measures

Hits:    Time:2022-12-07

Fall and winter are the peak season for fires. Many people are living on campus so the effects of a fire will be staggering. The tragedy of the fire nevertheless occurred despite several news stories warning people about it. How come? Because the majority of individuals are not sufficiently aware of fire prevention. Being cautious in life is always the appropriate thing to do. We shouldn't allow our need for a little convenience to lead us or others to put themselves at risk. Therefore, we should constantly remind ourselves, "Dorm safety, start with me!"

So, what are the potential fire safety hazards in the dormitory?

1. Illegal use of high-power electrical appliances

Although the school explicitly prohibits students from using high-power and illegal electrical appliances in the dormitory, some students continue to use hair dryers, curling irons, and other electrical devices that are easily combustible. Students are also prone to purchasing low-quality electrical goods, such as charging desk lamps, which pose a fire risk after extended usage.

2. There are many flammable products in the dormitory

Most student supplies, such as books, clothes, and other items, are flammable and are piled up in dormitories where multiple students are typically housed together. If these supplies are not properly managed, they may catch fire. For example, the plug board on a bed's head poses a fire hazard as well as a threat to students' personal safety.

3. Private and haphazard power supply connections

Many students in the dorm use indoor plugs for personal power charging or other purposes, and some even run wires from electrical appliances through mats or connections to combustible materials or use wire lamp heads, lamp tubes, and other electrical equipment to hang clothes or bake goods. All of these practices are extremely dangerous.

How to eliminate the hidden danger of fire and avoid tragedy?

1. Never attach the power cable in private.

2. Smoking is not permitted in the dorm.

3. Avoid reading when lighting candles inside the mosquito net.

4. Avoid burning trash, and use of mosquito coil incense must take fire safety precautions.

5. Do not store flammable and explosive items.

6. Avoid using electric blankets, subpar appliances, and other electrical devices that might catch fire, as well as high-power equipment like quick heat and electric furnaces.

7. Do not use alcohol stoves.

8. If the power goes off and you smell the sticky smell of burnt wire or rubber, report immediately and take measures.

9. Do not bring desk lamps close to pillows and bedding.

10. Students should adopt the practice to save electricity by turning off lights when not in use and avoiding turning on bright lights. Use of electric rice cookers, stoves, electric mattresses, and other electric equipment should be avoided inside living room.
