Each year several competitions are held at Shenyang Aerospace University to link students’ theoretical learning with practical research, design and problem-solving. This November, two teams from IEC participated in the 3rd Future Aero-engine Design Competition and Advanced Intelligent Manufacturing and Scientific Innovation Competition Accordingly. Under the guidance of their respective professors, the two teams achieved success in these two competitions.
The Future Aero-engine Design team initiated their work on an insightful engine design based on the Boundary Layer Ingestion and Propulsive Fuselage concept. Using CATIA, they designed an engine code-named “BLIE-M21” which they reported to be an optimal choice for the eco-friendly future green aviation industry.
For the Intelligent Manufacturing Competition, the IEC team brainstormed several ideas in group meetings. Finally, they started working on their innovative “Lenibot Intelligent CNC” project which is an AI integrated multifunctional robotic arm.
By distributing the tasks of research work, design, drafting, analysis, simulation and report writing among team members, both teams finally submitted their work to the organizing body after stressful hard work.
On the afternoon of 18th November, the Aero-engine Design team successfully defended their project at an event held in Key Lab; the Intelligent manufacturing team’s work had been rigorously reviewed by the professors of Mechatronics, AI and Robotics Department of SAU. Finally, the results of both competitions were announced where both of the IEC teams achieved immense success. The Aero-engine Design team got the Special Grand Prize and the Intelligent Manufacturing Team showed up as a First Prize Winner Team.
On the morning of 23th November, Prof. Wu Jingtai, Party Secretary of IEC and Ms. Yin Dawei, Deputy Dean of IEC recognized the hard work of participating students. Prof. Wu encouraged all the students to engage in different competitions which will make them more innovative and productive. All the team members believe that working on this kind of extracurricular project can make them more enthusiastic about building various skill-set for advanced engineering design.
