The International Students Union organized a tour to the Tiexi industrial museum on the 18th of November, 2017. Several International students and Chinese volunteers came to experience China’s industrial journey from prehistory to modernity. Inventions and other artefacts, made in the 18th century are on display in the museum.

The museum has several sections highlighting the developments that took place in various sectors from the 18th century till date. The Industrialization section depicts the development that sprung up as a result of the Westernization Movement in the 1860s. Aggression of imperialism and the rule of bureaucrat-capitalism hampered these developments until the People’s Republic of China was formed. The machine tool section shows China’s transition from ancient machine prototypes to modern steel machines and eventually CNC machines. Several foreign and local foreign machine tools are on display.

China Foundry Association hosted the Foundry museum exhibition. The foundry portrays the products of several casting techniques used for over 6000 years. The bamboo model of a 99-type tank was particularly intriguing in this section. The Automobile exhibition hall contains both foreign and local automobiles used within the same time frame. Last but not the least was the Electromechanical museum which was closed for maintenance.

The tour lasted between 9:00am and 12:00pm and was a good experience overall.
