On June 23, 2017, a news conference on “POLYITAN-2-SAU”launching was held, which attracting dozens of mass media to report. The nano satellite was jointly developed by SAU and National Technical University of Ukraine. It was launched into space from the cosmodrome on Cape Canaveral (USA) on the board of American carrier rocket “Atlas” in April, 18, 2017 together with another 27 nano satellites under QB50 project.

First – “PolyITAN-1” – was launched on 19 June, 2014 and is still on near-Earth orbit. Launch of POLYITAN-2-SAU was to enhance key technology and perfect operational flight mode.

The successful launching of “POLYITAN-2-SAU” has profound significance for the integration of “B&R” Initiative, development of space engineering professionals as well as international exchanges and cooperation.

Prof. Wang Wei attended the conference. The conference was held by Prof. Tong Gang. Prof. Sun Hualin, Vice director of Liaoning Educational Department was invited to the conference.

The QB50 mission will demonstrate the possibility of launching a network of 50 CubeSats built by Universities Teams all over the world as a primary payload on a low-cost launch vehicle to perform first-class science in the largely unexplored lower thermosphere.

Space agencies are not pursuing a multi-spacecraft network for in-situ measurements in the lower thermosphere because the cost of a network of 50 satellites built to industrial standards would be extremely high and not justifiable in view of the limited orbital lifetime. No atmospheric network mission for in-situ measurements has been carried out in the past or is planned for the future. A network of satellites for in-situ measurements in the lower thermosphere can only be realized by using very low-cost satellites, and CubeSats are the only realistic option.
