Dragon Boat Festival activity held

On 30 May 2014, the fun filled Dragon Boat Festival was celebrated by international students and staff of SAU at Friendship Villa.

Staff and some instructors introduced the origin of Dragon Boat Festival and taught international students to make Zongzi.

Zongzi is an essential food of the Dragon Boat Festival. In early times, it was only glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or other plant leaves and tied with colored thread, but now the fillings are more diversified, including jujube and bean paste, fresh meat, and ham and egg yolk.

“We need soak glutinous rice and wash reed leaves before wrapping up zongzi”, said the instructor.

Five-color threads were also given to international students. The threads will be hung around the neck or wrists to ward off evil.
