The intensive French language course for Amien-SAU Chinese students has been running since 2011, in line with government policy to encourage Chinese students to communicate directly with native speakers during their overseas study.

This year, 12 students from SAU are undertaking grueling weeks at the academy as they strive to improve their command of French language.

Because of the high-intensity study program and the quality of the resources provided for the students, the teachers refer to the course as "the No 1 French class at SAU".

The course covers 24 basic scenarios, including giving presentations, making a phone call, and giving speeches. Students engage in situational dialogues and the lessons are backed up by notes on vocabulary, grammar and cultural hints, according to a French teacher.

"These dialogues are learned and practiced intensively, with the emphasis on fluency and the correct pronunciation and intonation," he said. "It's particularly important because the trainees will undertake schooling in France where they will stay for years, thus communicative language must be widely practiced presently.”

"Leaning foreign language like French and English can help us to respect foreign cultures as well as our own diverse culture," said Li Qi, a Chinese student from Amien-SAU class.

SAU has been committing itself into the development of international education in Liaoning Province since decades ago. More cooperation with other countries will be set up in this new age.
