BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met here Tuesday with visiting Ghanian President John Evans Atta Mills and pledged to enhance parliamentary exchange between the two sides.

Wu, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, also expressed hope the two parliamentary organs will increase coordination in international parliamentary organizations, in a bid to enhance China-Ghana relations.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ghana.

Wu spoke highly of the traditional bilateral friendship, noting that in recent years the two nations have enjoyed frequent high level visits and supported each other in issues concerning each other's core interests.

The smooth progression of bilateral industrial cooperation had brought the two peoples tangible benefits, Wu noted.

Mills thanked China for its long-term support, saying that Ghana values its ties with China.

He also agreed the two nations' parliaments and political parties should strengthen exchange.

The Ghanian president is in China for a six-day state visit.
