How to choose a field for research

Introduction

Research is the process of discovering new knowledge. This knowledge can be either the development of new concepts or the advancement of existing knowledge and theories, leading to a new understanding that was not previously known. In other words, Research is a systematic investigation (i.e. the gathering and analysis of information) designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge. So, a hypothesis is formed, appropriate research methods are designed, data is collected and analyzed, and research results are summarized into one or more research conclusions. These research conclusions are then shared with the rest of the scientific community to add to the existing knowledge and serve as evidence to form additional questions that can be investigated. It is this cyclical process that enables scientific research to make continuous progress over the years; the true purpose of research.

F-I-A process

Focusing on Foresight to Insight to Action, the basic research fields are chosen by studying the foresight. The significance might be on trend at present but the future should be focused more. If the industrial changes are absolute and carrying clear concept about the positive possibility and forecast a great market only then the topic or field can be picked.

After studying, the foresight then the insights must be focused. As the industrial and generalized impact is a vital issue to the research & development field, so the Impact of the field must be analyzed. If the impact factor is too high then it should be avoided because it may fall anytime. So an average impact factor should be found to pick a topic or field a research.

The final step should be Action. While Foresight and Insights are quite impressive but the action is not compatible to the industrial movement regarding the current or near future scope, then the whole research or topic can be considered just a piece of paper or just an essay.

Learning form the above passage it an said that, “Digging deep of the current industrial demand and studying the pattern of industrial changes a topic, field of research should be chosen.”

Day-After-Tomorrow Factor

Today we might be doing excellent research and tomorrow we can get ostentatious result of research but the impact for day after tomorrow. If the research doesn’t face the proper sustainable results.

The objectives should be pointed out today, the scope of implementation and the results should be study by tomorrow and the result and the impact should be sustain for long time; at least the result should be object oriented so the research can stand out until the further research takes place.

The reason of a research should not be only to pass a certain time or to meet a certain criteria but to explore more opportunities for tomorrow and day after tomorrow and for the future.
