China’s National Day falls on Oct 1 every year to commemorate the founding of the People's Republic of China. The 72nd National Day is coming. 2021 is a very special year for the Chinese people. It marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). On July 1st, President Xi Jinping solemnly declared that we have realized the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. We have brought about a historic resolution to the problem of absolute poverty in China. We are now marching in confident strides toward the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has been the greatest dream of the Chinese people since the beginning of modern times.

On December 2, 1949, the fourth meeting of the Committee of the Central People’s Government accepted the proposal of the CPPCC National Committee and adopted the resolution on the national day of the People’s Republic of China, which decided that October 1 of each year was the great day for the founding of the People’s Republic of China and also the national day of the People’s Republic of China.
After the founding of the people’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949, the form of National Day celebration changed several times.
In the early days of the founding of new China (1950-1959), large-scale celebrations and military parades were held every year on the National Day. In September, 1960, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council decided to reform the National Day system in line with the policy of governing a country with diligence and thrift. Since then, from 1960 to 1970, grand gatherings and mass parades were held in front of Tian’anmen Square every National Day, but no military parade was held.

Since the founding of new China, 15 military parades have been held on the National Day celebration. There will be celebrations and military parades of different scales every fifth and tenth anniversary. The seven military parades with great influence and the most representative significance in history are the Founding Ceremony, the 5th, 10th, 35th, 50th, 60th and 70th anniversary of the founding of the people’s Republic of China.
